Home Care 100 Recap: Technology

Date: February 13, 2025 Lincoln Intelligence Group

The 2025 Home Care 100 was a culmination of a months-long research journey by Senior Advisor Betsy Hansen to address a common need heard around the provider community: the ability to execute on their desired tech strategies without being disrupted by data integration and interoperability challenges. We shared the biggest EMR pain points, as well as highlighted components of the desired future state. Eight leading EMR partners shared their integration perspectives and roadmap plans. We also crowned our first-ever Innovators Bowl winners!

Key Takeaways

  • Recent advancements in tech and AI are spurring innovation. An EMR that leverages these technologies is becoming table stakes – though data and integration remain key.

  • Providers called out two main themes when it comes to their desired future state with an EMR partner: 1) prioritized investments in data integration and interoperability, and 2) greater alignment and accountability.

  • The EMR landscape is shifting. Existing solutions are re-aligning their products and new entrants are making headway – there's a clear opportunity for a “next gen" to emerge.

  • Momentum is gaining in willingness to switch EMR vendors as more and more providers seek out new partners to achieve the experience they want.

  • As current solutions re-evaluate their strategies, the time is ripe to close the gap between the provider and EMR community.

The Path Forward
Pressure is mounting and it's an opportune time for providers to re-evaluate their tech strategies and EMR experience to future-proof their organizations. Providers are faced with several options to consider as they weigh the best path forward:

  • Do Nothing: Wait for your current situation to improve gradually over time.

  • Do More With Current Means: Apply strategies and tactics for “getting more juice out of the squeeze”.

  • Apply Collective Pressure: Lean into provider-led user groups; jointly build an aligned/prioritized roadmap.

  • Look Elsewhere: DIY, switch EMR partners and/or look to a new entrant.

Inaugural Innovators Bowl: Virtual Caregiving

It was hard to miss our "Bowl" theme as Home Care 100 football fans showed up strong! The audience, along with three distinguished judges, rated five emerging virtual caregiving solutions:

  1. Circadia Health: Contactless patient monitoring that detects, predicts and prevents hospitalizations and falls via ambient home sensors.

  2. Medical Brain: AI-powered clinical assistant offering 24/7 connected care, and real-time decision support and communication for patients and clinicians.

  3. care.coach: 24/7 human-AI avatar virtual companion that enhances the well-being of older adults.

  4. Kerry Care: AI assistant and companion that manages clinical and non-clinical care, and allows caregivers to coordinate the right services at the right time.

  5. AION Biosystems: AI-powered wearable that detects early signs of infection through continuous body temperature remote monitoring.

Kerry Care was crowned the winner of the Judges Award and Circadia Health won the Audience Award. Congratulations to all! It was an energizing way to jump into Bowl season and see the innovators working tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of those our providers serve.
